The last few years have been so challenging. I never expected some of the things I would face after being married for 19 years and the marriage ending; I knew it would be hard. But you just do not know what you do not know.

For every person that has made the life-altering, soul-wrenching decision to walk away from a relationship of that longevity, I want to say, I am so so sorry for all the nonsense, the clichés, the horrible anecdotes, and useless advice you have received from all the people around you with their own ideals, religion, and opinions.
It is HORRIBLE. And I am so sorry.
It is said that humans will not change until the pain of staying the same outweighs the pain of change.
NOTICE the word PAIN. It’s gonna hurt, no matter what.
Being a human hurts.
So like so many of my brothers and sisters, I was put in a situation where I had to make the calculation. I had to weigh the pain. And I decided on change.
And what that decision has done is… CHANGED me.
I went and watched the musical Frozen this weekend and once again I was taken aback by the writers and the messages in the songs and script.
As Elsa sings her famous “Let it go” you hear…
“Don’t let them in, don’t let them see. Be the good girl you always have to be. Conceal. Don’t feel, don’t let them know.”
And then the climax…
“Let is go, let it go, I’ll rise like the break of dawn. Let it go, let it go. The perfect girl is gone. Here I stand in the light of day, let the storm rage on. The cold never bothered me anyway.”
Change requires letting go.
Letting go of ideals, of man-made rules, of the law, of others’ perceptions, of control, of “what people will think.” It is risk. And you will be SEEN, and you will be scrutinized.
We have each been fed ideals and rules of life that we are supposed to follow. It comes from your family of origin, your religion, the part of the country/world you grew up in, your environment, your influences.
You have been told since a very young age what is “good”, “right”, the way “life should look.” You have been given formulas: “If you do this and that, you will get this…”
And when you are in a position where you are having to calculate pain. When you are trying to make a decision that is going to relieve pain and inflict pain at the same time, when you are trying to set yourself, your heart, and mind free, the pressures around us can be suffocating, stifling, and even become like a prison and paralyze us.
Elsa from Frozen was made to conceal herself, to NOT feel. To hide away, and she was to stay proper, good, and small.
As I listened to this storyline and watched our amazing Bartlesville talent, I pulled my phone out and made a note when I heard Elsa say this,
“If I let go of the rules, who knows how dangerous I might be?”
If I let go?
The law or the rules cannot produce in us the transformed life we desire.
2 Corinthians puts it like this: “The letter (of the law) kills, but the Spirit gives life.”
As we mature and try to be at home in our bodies, to own our lives and our paths, we are ALL going to come face to face with the law. We are going to bump up against a conflict within our soul. Where our soul is longing for freedom that produces life and peace deep in our bones, and we will be have to make a choice.
Do I stay small, stay concealed, do I conform, stay quiet, just keep going, just leave it alone, or do I “let go” of the law to walk in my freedom?
There was a Jewish man named Saul; he was a religious leader. He knew all the rules. Every single one. Memorized. 613 of them.
And there was a new group of people that came on the scene and started saying things like,
“There is this teacher that said that these laws are not needed. That the God of our ancestors actually doesn’t need anything from us for us to be loved and accepted. We actually just ARE.”
And you know what happened? This group of people CHANGED the world.
They let go of old ways, they let go of the culture they were raised in, they went up against governments and traditions and the way of life of their people; they let go of it all.
And you know what Elsa was right. They became the most dangerous people in history.
They were hunted; their ideas were stolen, burned, they were tortured, they were killed, because what would become of a people who believed that they no longer needed to “pay” others for access to peace, love, and freedom, but it actually was IN them.
They actually could become the most powerful, dangerous thing on earth, a person transformed from the inside out.
A living vessel, a conduit of the GREAT mystery of the universe, the “power” that holds all things together, is in their hearts, in their bones, transforming their minds, changing their families, producing life, and giving peace.
These people will be unstoppable; they will change the world, because they can’t be “controlled” anymore.
What the law was powerless to do in humans is now done through the Power that actually is exceedingly great and living in YOU. The Great mystery, the Great I Am, light, acceptance, forgiveness, pure LOVE. When received, it unleashes us to walk in all we were created to be. To walk in our fullness, to exercise our gifts on this earth and to embody all of ME.
We don’t have to be paralyzed anymore, my dear; your freedom is waiting, your soul is longing, the Spirit is guiding. You are more powerful than you know; no more hiding yourself.
Allow your heart to feel, no need to conceal, let yourself be seen, and allow the sparkling, brilliant you to shine forth. It’s time to “Let It Go”; you are not Frozen anymore.
