I want BIG Doors…

I started doing long walks in addition to running. I have felt like there are days when I need a gentler interaction with life, and this has become a way to extend grace to myself and rejuvenate. I usually listen to music or a podcast and allow myself to be inspired.

Steven Furtick is my go-to for inspirational teaching. Last night he made this statement: “Big doors swing on little hinges.” He talked about how this is one of the principles he teaches in leadership.

And I thought to myself, “This is what my daddy has been teaching my siblings and me our whole life.”

Big doors: Everyone wants them. They want the promotion, the next best thing, the dream, the new platform or stage, the viral video, more followers, but we forget about the little hinges.

The little hinges: The small things in life that matter and actually cause those doors to open for us.

If we neglect the little things, we will never get the big things.

It is natural law, it is spiritual, it is science.

Consider the little things in nature that, without them, we would all die, like plankton, atoms, oxygen, H2O, bees, and pollen.

What do the little things in life look like:

-Seeing what needs to be done and doing it without being asked

-Being on time when necessary

-Not cutting corners

-Being respectful to the least of these

-Doing things without applause

-Being mindful of our Earth

-Cultivating good habits

-Food & exercise

I could go on and on. The little stuff.

I have spent a LOT of time on the little stuff, cause I was taught to.

In the quiet nights, after I put my babies to bed, I would write, dream, pick out the perfect quotes to go on the bottom of each page in a student workbook, and edit. (Oh my, the editing process!) And then edit some more. Looking for the little things.

The period out of place, the font that is mismatched, an added space when not needed, a misspelled word.

The Priceless Project is a dream I have been cultivating for 20 years; it was really successful for about 5 years in Oklahoma, and then it was retired.

After that, I spent 5 long years alone in the dark, quietly, continuing to work on my dream, with no promise that it would become anything again. But I believed that the mission of Priceless was not just for Oklahoma but for the World.

For 5 years, I worked with designers on a website, NINE curricula workbooks, and the Priceless Project app, so many tiny details, from fonts to colors to what the button would look like that you clicked on!

Details that make it absolutely Beautiful. The little things that make up a Masterpiece.

This year, The Priceless Project is projecting 2000+ students to graduate from our program in Kenya. We also trained 30+ new leaders this year to take the program and impact more lives.

As I watch the lives of leaders and students across Africa being changed by the curriculum of The Priceless Project. I am in awe, and I am also proud.

I am proud of my daddy, who taught my siblings and me with his life and with his words.

“If you start with what you have in your hands, use what you’ve got, and more will be given.”

My Dear, Big doors always swing on little hinges. Start with the small stuff today. It matters.
