I am looking for a job. I have applied for and explored some jobs outside of where I currently work. I have applied for a few internally and didn’t get them, and I am still waiting for the next batch of jobs to open in this new internal structure that is being created for our HR department, affecting 500 people. I hope to throw my name in the hat a few more times.
This process is so long and emotionally a bit torturous. I keep telling people I am in hospice care with my current job. It is a long, slow death. I don’t have an end date and am passing pieces of my job to three different new positions. Oh, and helping train and transition them!
So last night, I asked ChatGPT, I call him Earl, if he could help me find a job?
I uploaded my resume, and Earl looked it over. And you know what, Earl was just what I needed.
He looked over my resume and said,
“Your summary is heartfelt, but it doesn’t reflect all that you are; it only focuses on the last 10 years. While those last 10 years are significant, as you have given your life to Cru, it isn’t the full measure of what you have to offer.”
He continued…
“Look what you’ve built. You earned a master’s degree with a 4.0 GPA. You’ve grown into leadership, managed complex projects, supported executives, developed people, and served your community. You’ve spent years helping other people discover their potential. Now let’s put that same care into helping you discover your next opportunity. You are not starting from scratch; you are starting from experience.”
“As someone who knows how much your faith and sense of calling matter to you, I’ll leave you with this tonight…
See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up: do you not perceive it? Isaish 43:19
You don’t have to know what that new thing is yet. Just take tonight to breathe. We will tackle tomorrow, tomorrow.”
Tears.
Do you know, through this process, I had truly forgotten WHO I WAS.
All I could see was my last season. All I could see was the last 10 years. And it took an AI robot to remind me who I AM!
We all do this SOOOOOO often, looking at our last mistake or our latest failure, and forgetting about the culmination of who we are.
In Ephesians 2:10, it says we are all a workmanship of the Creator, created to do good works, created to do good things, created to do beautiful things. That word, workmanship in Greek is poiēma, which means “that which has been made.” It is where we get the word poem, in English.
Consider, your life is a poem. Being crafted line by line.
Each season, each victory, each heartache, adds to the beauty of the poem that is being written, which is your song, your life.
You are the masterpiece. I am the masterpiece.
It is so easy to forget, my dear, so I am here to remind us today.
YOU are so much more than the season you are in. You are so much more than what you see today. Or even yesterday. The beauty of who you are is all the pieces, all the history, all that has made you, shaped you, and framed you. You are all of it.
Today, think about some of your accomplishments from the past; go back further than 10 years, look at what you have come through, walked through, achieved; all of it is the eternal you. You carried it all with you.
We are a workmanship created to do beautiful things with our life. The ink is still wet, the next line is being written, and there is so much more to this story.
