When I lived in Orlando, I tried to get to the beach as much as possible, and my boys were big fans of the water and the waves. Being new to the beach life, I recall a time when I looked up and they had made their way, way down the beachfront. The current was just taking them slowly south. I got up and went and got their attention to come back.
The next time we were at the beach, we had an umbrella and I put it up and had all our stuff, and I told them,
“You need to look up occasionally while you are playing and ensure you can see the Umbrella. Because without even knowing it, you will drift on down the beach. SO look up and find me. Look for the umbrella, do you see the marker?”
Here is the thing, do you know what you have to do to drift?
NOTHING
You don’t have to do anything wrong. You can simply do nothing, and you will drift.
As humans we need to recheck our markers regularly, we need to keep our markers in our sight because we will DRIFT.
And the tricky and crazy thing is you simply have to do nothing and you will be miles from where you want to be, you will be in a place you don’t recognize, you will be lost, and you didn’t even know you were drifting.
Because of our natural propensity to drift, we need to have Markers in our lives.
We need to come back, refocus on our marker or purpose or our WHYs? If we don’t have our purpose? Our greater, deeper, why? Our Marker, we will drift.
We will become unsatisfied, we will become depressed, bored, confused, cynical, hyper-vigilant about things that don’t matter, focused on the WRONG things, or not focused at all. We will be unhappy, unmotivated, lack purpose, passion, or drive.
The human spirit NEEDS purpose. It is one of the greatest spiritual needs of our souls.
In 2011, my passion to pursue wholeness and help girls and women along the way led me to pursue getting my Master’s in Human Relations. It pushed me to read, to study, to do classes, to go to therapists, and also to be very real, open, and honest about my struggles.
I remember a moment in about 2016 where I had been exposed to Dr. Brene Brown, Dr. John Townsend, and Dr. Henry Cloud, who were all psychologists doing groundbreaking work and writing books, helping push against Christian culture that had rejected science/psychology, etc., and I said to myself,
“I want to teach THIS to Christians. I want to teach spiritual, emotional, mental, intellectual, and soul health to the “church.”
Here is what happened…
Jan 3rd, 2017- I pulled onto the World Headquarters of Cru in Orlando, Florida, and started my job working for the National Director of Leadership Development and HR- where I would enter into a world where my job was now to help develop and teach Christians about spiritual, emotional, and mental integration, and soul health.
Each of us has the nagging question in our soul, “Why am I here?” What am I here for? What is my purpose? What is my why? And we each need to find that for ourselves, or we will suffer.
Your “why” might be connected to your natural talents and gifts, it might be connected to your trauma and pain, it might be connected to your passions or things that bring you great joy.
You must find it and then MARK it!
Keep it in view, come back to it, remind yourself what you were created for.
Answer the question for yourself…
Why am I here? Why do I work this job? Why do I attend this church? Why am I involved with this program?
Keep your “whys” in focus, in view, because without them life will feel very very meaningless, dark, and at times hopeless, if we do not have a clear vision of “what we are living for.”
I live to help HEAL people; mind, body, and soul.
I do it in a variety of ways, through my music, my writing, teaching & training, and The Priceless Project.
Who I am and what I was created to do is so clear to me, and this brings great freedom, clarity and focus.
I want this for you my dear, I want you to see so clearly who you are, what you have to give to your community and your world, and I want you to keep your gaze on your “Why”, your Purpose, your Marker.
Even if you drift, cause we all do, just come on back. You can’t run from yourself or your calling. They are always just waiting for you!
From my heart
to yours
