I AM LOVE…

I am passionate about living. You know what I see? People who desperately want to live, want life, want rest, want peace, and we flip and flop around trying to figure it out.

I sat in a small group last night. We looked at a passage of scripture from Luke 10:25:

25 On one occasion, an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” 26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?” 27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’[c]; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[d]” 28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this, and you will live.”

My dears it is simple, so simple: “Do this, and you will live.”

Finding True life looks like this:

You need an open heart and mind that looks up and outside of yourself. You need to see the beauty around you every day and say, “Wow, who made all this, what holds all this together?”

Maybe you don’t know the answer, but you can stand in humility and realize it is not YOU. You need to recognize the “power” that is round-about you, that is unexplainable, unimaginable, and uncontainable, and surrender to it.

Many call this “God”, the Cherokees called it the “Great Mystery.” The Jews called it, “I Am What I Am.” In Arabic, it is called “The One Supreme” or “All-Powerful.” Science explains it as energy, and natural law, yet even in natural law, there are miracles, mysteries and things beyond explanation.

Can you fall in “love” with this great mystery? Can you embrace the gifts lavished upon you EVERY DAY by this unexplainable force?

This force that feeds you, breathes life into your lungs, and causes your chest to beat? The gift of sunshine and rain, of moonlight and stars. Of the opportunity to feel and experience pleasure and pain?

You need this piece, my dear.

And secondly, you need this… to LOVE your neighbors as yourself.

You need a deep LOVE and acceptance of who you have been created to be for this moment in history. And you need to look at the person beside you; admire and accept them, and share love and life with them.

This LOVE is the ultimate gift and gives us a reason to live. Without others, there is no LIFE.

Just consider…you are HERE because of two people. Maybe due to love, or maybe just due to an act of “love-making.” But without others, there is no me, there is no you.

So my dear, if you want to LIVE, you must fall in love with the beautiful, mysterious, awe-provoking, unexplainable all around us, and you must find deep LOVE for others around you.

To enter into a community of people, and give, contribute, show up, sacrifice, and LOVE with your whole heart.

And there in this place you will find LIFE. Everything else is meaningless.

For if I have wisdom to speak, teach, influence, lead others, but have not love, I am like a bunch of meaningless noise. If I have power, money, businesses, importance, political office, but have not love, I am really nothing and have nothing.

I hear your soul crying out, I see you grasping for something, for purpose, for meaning, for happiness. I see you.

Together, we have to go back to the fundamentals, back to the basics, back to simplicity. Fall in love with seeking after the mystery of this life and seek to love people, give love, receive love, and BE LOVE.

Love is still the answer.
