I am having a Spring Break garage sale trying to get rid of things because my new home my daddy is building me is almost DONE! We can’t believe it. The fastest build ever!
I started setting up the sale on Sunday afternoon and left all my stuff outside overnight. My boys were really worried about it. Mom, “What if people steal your stuff?” Well, I told them, “The point is to get rid of stuff, and if someone steals something they probably really need it. So, I am not worried about anyone stealing.”
Do you know, no one stole anything? And Monday I had to run kids around in the afternoon and came back to $20 under my doormat and $3 in the door jam, from people that came by while I wasn’t there and left their money!
We now have self-checkout lines at stores, where we bank on people being honest and paying for their stuff. I was recently in an airport and there was a whole store with snacks, magazines, and all the things, and NO person there, just a self-checkout. This company decided that it is more lucrative to not pay an employee, plan on some loss, and allow people to check themselves out than to have a person there to manage or watch all their stuff. Wow!
Many many companies are moving towards models like unlimited vacation and just get your job done, instead of tight parameters…freedom. These companies are going to bank on the side of trusting people rather than regulating them.
I believe we all want someone to just believe in us and to pull the best out of us. I can’t stop believing in humanity.
It is moments like yesterday when I walked up to my door to $3 dollars folded and stuck in the door jam, where I just am in awe of people.
Moments when my oldest wakes up and finds joy in making breakfast for himself and his brothers. Or as I watch my middle son hold the door at church looking out carefully watching an older lady with a cane as she heads to her car, she had dropped her keys and he wanted to make sure she was okay.
Or when friends and their children give you their Saturday morning, their hands, and their sweat to help you clean up thousands of pounds of debris at your new house site. When men from your church show up to help you fix a broken window, pay for all the materials, and replace the glass like it is nothing. Or while watching a high school soccer game where one of our Bruins players goes down and the OTHER team helps him stretch out his calf that is cramping and carries him off the field. In moments like this, I am in awe of the human spirit.
I am in awe of the beauty of who we are. My dears, I don’t want to stop believing in us. I don’t want to paint a picture of life where I am scared of people and what they “might” do. No, I want to keep believing.
I want to empower and push people toward their brilliance. I want to be one that says, “I see you, darling, I see the greatness in you, become ALL you were created to be.” I want you to find the “holiness” that is there beyond your trauma and triggers and beyond the pain and suffering of this life.
Deep inside you, that temple place, the place where goodness lives and radiates through our being, that place that calls to us, that beckons us to come and become. I want to tap into that place and call forth and draw out all that resides inside you. I still believe in you dear, be the brilliant shining light that you are.
