Recently I was at the gym with my bestie and we were doing our usual, chatting, talking, and catching up on all our heart matters as we worked out. Another friend happened to walk in and see us and came by to say hello. I had not seen this friend in a long time, and she looked at me, “How are you??!!”
My bestie and I had been mulling through some of the harder things in my life right before this other gal walked up, and I responded a bit unenthusiastically, “Oh, I am good, I’m fine.”
Then my bestie with a huge smile and lots of enthusiasm says, “Actually she is great! She is really really good.” I was like, “I am?” And she says, “Yes!” And then proceeded to tell this other friend of all the wonderful amazing things happening for me in my life.
As we were leaving the gym that night, I gave her a hug and tears filled my eyes as I thanked her for reminding me of all the good things happening amid the new and different season of life I am now living.
Today looks different for me, feels different, it is different. I like so many headed into this day of LOVE kind of dreading it, it is just a silly day, but a day we all have to face just the same.
It has made me stop and reflect… I scrolled through my pictures of the last year to see all the good and all the love that has shown up in my life in big and small ways, and it was a therapeutic and helpful reminder of what I shared recently in my blog post “Life is So BAD and So GOOD”, we are all living good/bad lives and both are always present. There is always so much good to be found if we will open our eyes and our senses and be open to receive it.
And sometimes you just need a bestie to remind you of all the good!
Or maybe a coworker to remind you with unexpected flowers. Or a sister to create a whole charcuterie picnic for you. Or a brother to fly you to Hawaii in the midst of the pain. Or dear friends who embrace your wildflower bouquet dreams and feed you dinner regularly. Dear ones that listen and cry, laugh and play with you day in and day out. Or an amazing band to make beautiful music with, week in and week out. Or a group of friends to raise your kids with and show up at games, and holidays and to even go to the beach together. Or a daddy to build you a new house and send you a Valentine’s Love Note!!!!
Love shows up in so many ways. Are you ready to receive it and open your eyes to see it?
