I had a friend that was helping coach me through some of my stuff, particularly embracing vulnerability. I told her one day, I thought I took a step because I was doing my hair and I usually would check the back with a mirror and fix it if I needed to and today, I didn’t check the back!
She said to me, “Em, I don’t know if not facing “yourself” is vulnerability. She said “what if you checked the back of your hair and it was not to your standards and then left it anyway? Could you do that?”
At that moment, I went “oh my goodness, I don’t think I could.” I didn’t think I could see the mess and not do something about it!
Years later here I am and well this is what I did today! I curled my hair in the morning, and as I was leaving to head to practice at church I felt my hair was getting frizzy in the back (curly hair girl issues). I looked and I saw, “yes it was frizzy, not perfectly curled, not to my standard” and I decided to embrace the imperfection for every woman that has put time into straightening or curling her hair, just for frizz to creep up slowly, or for it all to fall out!
For women who know the work and toil of straightening curly hair or curling straight hair! Lol! Embracing our imperfections is freeing to our soul, but also to others! Small steps… Living that unfiltered life, fighting for our health and wholeness.
